Dance Classes and Private Workshops

• Classes at three of L.A’s top dance studios where you will select the styles, levels and choreographers of your choice
• Full day group private dance intensive with the industry’s hottest instructors including ‘So You Can Dance’ choreographers and MTV’s Dancelife dancers at International Dance Academy, on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, where America’s Best Dance Crew is shot. Workshops include Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Contemporary PLUS dancers will choose between a Salsa class with SYTYCD's Alex Da Silva or a Bollywood class. Be Discovered has booked many dancers on Bollywood films and now with an Oscar in their credits,  it will be an asset for dancers to learn new styles. The workshops are customized to suit dancers needs and feature industry chat’s and Q & A’s, autograph signing sessions and photo taking opportunities
  
• Faculty for the day of privates is TBA. Choreographers include those on the Faculty page but may also include new choreographers including Tabitha & Napoleon, Kenny Wormald, Francisco Gella, Kitty McNamarra, Kaba Modern, JJ Villar and more
• Industry lectures will cover topics including: learn to be a professional at all times, market yourself in a positive way, fitness and nutrition, type casting and body image in dance and the industry, self esteem and confidence, stay safe and sane in Hollywood’s tough and competitive game and learn to be true to yourself and not get lost in Hollywood
• Spend a full day taking class at The Edge with some of the industry’s best teachers and professionals. Options include Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Breakin’, Jazz Funk, Contemporary Jazz, Modern Fusion, Movement for Actors, Stretch & Strengthening, Turns, Theatre Dance, Belly Dancing and Salsa. Levels range from beginners to professional
• Classes are held by renown Hollywood teachers who train and choreograph today’s leading dancers and entertainers. The teachers work with entertainers such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Prince, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, the Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin and many more. They have appeared in hundreds of music videos, commercials, TV shows, films and stage productions and companies including American Ballet Theatre, the Joffrey Ballet, the Cleveland Ballet and the Tokyo Ballet company.

• Take classes at Debbie Reynolds where the instructors are some of the best in the business. Options include Lyrical Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, House, Burlesque Jazz, Popping & Locking, to just name a few. Although this studio is open only to dancers 17 years +, if you are part of Summer in L.A., you will be able to attend even though you may not meet the age criteria.
  
• The friendly and relaxed atmosphere at Debbie Reynolds has attracted many celebrities throughout the years, such as Lucille Ball, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bette Midler, Cher, Usher and Mariah Carey. It has been a popular rental facility for many of the most renowned choreographers in the business, including Travis Payne, Rob Marshall, Vincent Patterson, Brian Friedman and Shawnette Heard. Choreographers have taught globally and have choreographed for numerous artists including Janet Jackson, Missy Elliot, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and many more. The instructors come from all around the world and their impressive training background ranges from Alvin Ailey to The Brooklyn Ballet to the "Streets"

  Broadway veteran, Tony award winner and 2008 Dance Education Award recipient Grover Dale is the man to meet and work with if you are interested in dancing professionally. If you are not interested in a professional dance career, this workshop is still for you.
  
  3 action packed days with industry players where you will meet and dance with 6 choreographers and be coached by 6 working dancers. You will learn on the job industry knowhow, gain on camera experience and much more. The 2009 professionals will be announced in June. Past Summer in L.A dancers in addition to having worked with Grover, have also worked with Mickey Minden (Pussy Cat Dolls), Tovaris Wilson (Janet Jackson), Kevin Stea (Madonna, Celine Dion), Liz Ramos (Paula Abdul, Jessica Simpson), Kitty McNamarra (Hysterica Dance Co.), Christian Vincent (Shakira, Mandy Moore), Michael Schwandt (Miss Universe, Jennifer Lopez), Aisha Francis (Destiny’s Child, Beyonce), Nadine Ellis (Pussy Cat Dolls, Hairspray) and Sandra Colton (SYTYCD, Rihanna), to just name a few.

Leading Industry Guests and Professionals

• Chaperones and mentors are professionals in the industry who will not only inspire you but will be available to provide industry advice, moral support, guidance and much more
• Network with industry decision makers, choreographers, stars, agents & back up dancers. In addition to the star choreographers, dancers and agents that Summer in L.A. dancers meet, past dancers have also met Marques Houston, Mya and Carmit Bachar of the Pussy Cat Dolls. • Have intimate and interactive experiences at all private workshops with industry chats, Q & A’s, autograph signing sessions and photo taking opportunities.
• Optional photo shoot with Lee Cherry, photographer to Hollywood’s top performing artists including the Pussy Cat Dolls, choreographer Brian Friedman and actress Jenna Dewan (Step Up, Take The Lead). Lee has also worked professionally as a dancer and is also a producer and director.
  
  This year we will be shooting at a new studio to change things up for returning dancers. With a lot more space that will help get each dancer not only a great headshot but also an "Iconic" dance shot. Agent Todd Cameron (Brian Friedman and Tyce Diorio agent) will stop by for a meet and greet with the dancers and a Q & A session during lunch.
  
  In the past, Lee invited Carmit Bachar (former Pussy Cat Dolls) and other special guests to stop by the shoot for a meet and greet, industry chat and photo taking opportunities. Carmit’s industry experience includes the films 13 Going on 30, Along Came Polly and Good Burger. She was the ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ woman in Ricky Martin’s world tour and also toured with No Doubt, Beyonce and Janet Jackson. She appears in numerous videos including Aaliyah’s ‘Rock The Boat’, Beyonce’s ‘Crazy In Love’ & ‘Baby Boy’ and the Black Eyed Peas ‘Shut Up’.
• Photo shoot hair and make up stylists are top working professionals in the industry with credits including America’s Next Top Model
• Work with fashion consultant to the stars Katina LeKerr (stylist for Dawson’s Creek, Spiderman 3) at the photo shoot. She will help you to find your style and put together your outfits and prep you for the shoot. She will also conduct workshops prior to the shoot including the Dance Pro workshop and the Fit & Figure workshop for all the Summer in L.A dancers and will offer mini style consultations
• Meet and work with professional director, producer and film maker Brad Hasse. Brad will be documenting Summer in L.A. and shooting videos and photos during the program for a conmemorative Summer in L.A. DVD and much more. Brad is a recipient of the FABRICA fellowship award, being one of the roughly 30 up-and-coming media artists invited each year from around the globe to collaborate with other grant holders in the town of Treviso, Italy. Preceding his year and a half in Europe, Brad has worked and lived in New York, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and plenty of hotels, tour busses, and huts in over 20 countries spanning five continents. Brad's specialty is shooting dancers and other credits include MTV, United Colors of Benetton, Food for the Hungry and Travel Channel, to just name a few.
• Optional demo production by Brad Hasse for dancers wishing to take home a professional demo reel
• Meet top US immigration lawyer Kevine Levine who specializes in helping dancers obtain their US work status. Be Discovered referred Tre Armstrong (Missy Elliott), Jae Blaze (Dream Girls) and Janet Castillo (Jennifer Lopez), who he assisted to obtain what they required to be able to legally work in the U.S. and be signed by top L.A agents

Auditions and Shows

• Be part of the live studio audience of the #1 hit dance show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ in the front rows and on the podiums and get to see performances by special guests. Past artists have included Lady Gaga, LL Cool J and the Dream, Mika and Busta Rhymes. It is also the elimination show so two dancers will be sent home.
• Attend auditions and/or work on a live set if you fit the type being cast. In 2004, the dancers attended Christina Aguilera auditions and in 2005, some of the dancers were background performers on the feature film Walk The Talk. In 2007, Marques Houston sat in on a class looking for dancers and scouted Talia Adler-Magat who was invited to audition for him and for You Got Served director Chris Stokes. In 2008, TLC’s 10 Years younger was being shot live on location at the Hollywood Highland Mall during our sightseeing outing. Diana and some of the dancers were asked to be a part of the taping.
• Mock Auditions with a top artistic director/choreographer to learn audition etiquette, how to pick up choreography quickly at dance auditions, work on controlling your nerves and improving your self-esteem and confidence
• Showcase for top dance and choreography agents from Bloc, MSA, DDO, Clear and other agencies as well aschoreographers at the Workshop Showcase. The agents will provide written assessments for all dancers highlighting both strengths and weaknesses which are priceless and will help you know what works and what you need to work on. This segment is not only for dancers looking for representation but also for dancers who would like to experience an informal audition and get feedback that would otherwise be unavailable from these top industry professionals. The outcome of the 2008 showcase: 88% of the dancers were invited to future agency auditions. Some received as many as seven invitations.
• Gain on camera experience at the Master Intensive and be seen on A4D.
  
  BONUS SCOUTING OPPORTUNITY: The executive producer of a new reality series will be scouting for choreographers and dancers for his new show on July 26!!!! During the intensive, dancers will stage a Pop Song with the pro's that will be showcased to the producer for this show. What an opportunity of a lifetime! MTV's Dancelife, another reality series helped to take the careers of many dancers to another level including Kenny Wormald and Blake McGrath.

Sightseeing and Fun

• Travel to Los Angeles, the entertainment capitol of the world from your hometown. You can come on your own as the program is chaperoned or you can join us with your family. Your family will be able to join us on some of our outings
• Choreographers, back up dancers and other stars are invited to join us on our outings. Past programs have featured actor Dayo Ade (Degrassi) and Duece the prince of krump (Chris Brown, Janet Jackson, So You Think You Can Dance)
• Walking tour of L.A hot spots including Hollywood's Walk of Fame, The Chinese Theatre, The Kodak Theatre and shopping at the Hollywood Highland Center
• Super stretch limo outing to see L.A hot spots at night including Hollywood, Sunset Blvd., Melrose, Beverly Hills and more. Stop by The Standard, a very posh hotel on the Sunset strip. You may know the hotel from Sex In The City and Entourage. Past limos have included Navigators, Hummers and Cadillac Escalades
  
• Shopping trip and lunch at The Grove during the lunch break of the SYTYCD taping
• Have a night out at Universal Studios Citywalk for shopping and sightseeing to wrap up the week
• Make friendships that will last a lifetime
